Maritime Task Force (part of RCSS WG)

Description

  • The Task Force mandate is to identify and prioritise gaps that limit the opportunities for hydrogen utilisation and adoption in the shipping sector, and the export/import of hydrogen and derivatives.

  • The Task Force aims at fostering coordination and collaboration among the member countries and develop recommendations to facilitate and accelerate the transition to clean and efficient energy and mobility systems using hydrogen technologies. The scope includes international corridors as well as in-land waterways.

  • Scope of activities includes regulations, codes, and standards gaps:

  1. That are opportunities/ barriers to the adoption of hydrogen as a clean fuel for emissions reduction in the marine transportation sector and ports operation (e.g., forklifts, cranes).

  2. With an impact on the role of maritimes as a conduit for reducing emissions from the transportation sector and for importing/exporting hydrogen.

  3. Identification of standardisation needs with respect to RCS for all IPHE member countries with relevance to hydrogen powered maritime vessels

  • The Task Force is led by Canada and Singapore, and counts about 55 individuals from 22 countries.
